Camp Happy Times is celebrating its 30th season this coming summer with a huge birthday bash! "Happy 30th Birthday" will be the theme for the week, culminating in one extravagant birthday party on Saturday, August 18 when former counselors and campers, donors and sponsors will be invited to visit and join in the festivities. In 1983 when camp first started at Lane Robbins Camp in Sussex County, NJ, there were 53 campers from two Valerie Fund Centers. Today, Camp Happy Times attracts over 200 campers from eight Valerie Fund Centers and numerous other hospitals around New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. For the last 21 years camp has been held at Tyler Hill Camp in Tyler Hill, Pennsylvania. New activities such as a cupcake decorating contest, chili/wings cook-off, a game show, waterslide, and finally a Birthday Carnival Extravaganza will delight campers during the week along with all of our old camp favorites. The fishing contest where the girls compete against the boys to see who can catch the most fish always gets the adrenaline pumping. Many campers wakeup extra early to drop their poles in the water, eager to reel in a fish and shout "BOY FISH or GIRL FISH!" Other activities that are always big hits include makeovers by Chanel for the big dance, the camp-wide baseball game, fireworks, barbecue, and graduating the upcoming Leaders-In-Training and Senior Classes. Planning for camp begins the moment the staff returns from the previous year, starting with choosing the theme. Camp Happy Times is a remarkable experience for all who attend or visit from the very first minute they step off the bus. This will be one birthday party no one will ever forget!
