Biographies

Joseph Mangione, Media Consultant: Chairperson of the Board
Joe has had a long career in media sales and marketing. He was President of Sales and Marketing at Canwest Mediaworks. He has also worked as Senior Vice President at Time Warner where he was responsible for all multi-platform integrated sales and marketing relationships across the US. Prior to that, Mr. Mangione was Senior Vice President, Global Client Solutions, at Turner Broadcasting. Previous positions included Publisher, Integrated Marketing at Better Homes and Gardens where his activities spanned print and TV properties. Mr. Mangione and his family are long time residents of Cedar Grove, NJ.


Brian D. Fuhro, Esq., Fuhro, Hanley & Beukas: Treasurer
Brian is a partner at Fuhro, Hanley & Beukas. Prior he has worked at Bruinooge & Associates, Price Waterhouse Coopers and KPMG. Brian is both a CPA and attorney. He is a member of the New Jersey State Society of CPA and the NJ State Bar Association as well as the American Bar Association. Brian is currently the treasurer of The Valerie Fund and a member of The Investments and Endowment Committee. His other associations include Board Member of the Kinnelon Educational Foundation, Past President of the Passaic County NJ State Society of CPA. Mr. Fuhro and his family are residents of Kinnelon.


Jodi L. Rosenberg, Esq., Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis, LLP: Secretary
Jodi is Counsel in the Litigation Department at Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis, LLP, with offices in Woodbridge and Roseland, New Jersey. Jodi is a graduate of The University of Michigan and Boston University School of Law. Jodi serves as Secretary of the Board and also serves on the Marketing and Communications Committee. Jodi has been involved with The Valerie Fund for over 10 years, beginning with her serving as a volunteer counselor at Camp Happy Times in 1995. Jodi and her husband Daniel live in Short Hills with their three growing children, Brandon, Jordan and Sydney.


Barry Kirschner: Executive Director
After growing up in Brooklyn, N.Y., Barry attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with a B.S. in Finance in 1977. He worked for CBS for 3 years in finance and marketing before returning to graduate school to get his MBA from the University of Chicago in 1982. From 1982 to 1990, Barry traded fixed income securities for Merrill Lynch, specializing in derivatives and zero coupon bonds. He went on to manage the zero coupon bonds at DLJ, UBS and Chase until 1998.

Barry learned of The Valerie Fund in 1989 when he attended a dinner for a child being treated at The Valerie Fund Center at Overlook Hospital. He joined the Thanksgiving Ball Committee in 1991 and was asked to join the Board of Trustees in 1993. Barry served on the board until 2003 when he joined the staff as Executive Director in October 2003.


Judy Abrams, Community Volunteer
Judy started in 1982 as a volunteer in The Valerie Fund Playroom Program. Judy has been an active member of the board for more than 15 years. Her current Valerie Fund initiatives include The Major Gifts Committee, The Nominating Committee and she chairs the Holiday Parties annually. Judy founded the Camp Store at Camp Happy Times and staffed it for over 20 years. Judy is involved with Morristown Memorial Foundation, Temple Sharey Tefilo Israel, and Metro West Federation. Judy was a preschool teacher in Maplewood. She has two sons and two grandchildren.


Gail P. Cohen, Community Volunteer
Gail has actively been involved with The Valerie Fund since 1992. She has served on the Candlelight Ball Committee, The Planned Giving Committee and currently chairs The Community Activities Committee. Gail developed and co-chaired the Eric Muldberg Sports-A-Thon 2003-2006. She has BA in Economics from Northwestern University and a MBA in Marketing from The Wharton School, University of PA. Gail also currently serves as Co-President and Treasurer of the North Pond Association, Short Hills, NJ. Gail worked at Merrill Lynch Trust Company in many departments, and served as a Trust Representative & Director of Marketing for their Philanthropic Financial Services Division. Gail and her family live in Short Hills.


Mark Gall, BBC America and BBC.com
Mr. Mark Gall is currently Senior Vice President of BBC America and BBC Digital Media Sales. He was a Senior Vice President at The Weather Channel. Mark joined The Weather Channel in 2003, after a ten-year stint at Tribune Broadcasting where he was the General Sales Manager for WGN Superstation. Along the way, Mark has helped major marketers solve their branding challenges across a wide variety of categories - telecommunications, emerging technology, fast food, financial services, accounting and management consulting, personal care, household products, and film. This past year he was on the executive board for the 1st Annual CAREoke for the Kids. He lives in Summit, New Jersey and has a daughter, Kylie and son, Mark Jr.


Jeff Greenholtz, Community Volunteer
Jeff Greenholtz is Vice President, Sales and Client Management of InterSchola, which conducts eBay auctions on behalf of educational institutions and municipal agencies in California and New York . Previously, he was a sales and marketing consultant for Children's Progress and Teachers College Innovations, educational start-ups associated with Columbia University. Jeff has been involved with The Valerie Fund since 1976, and he currently serves on the Marketing and Communications Committee. He has also served on the committee of Kids Rock the World, an American Diabetes Association program aimed at young teens. He is a graduate of Amherst College and Columbia Business School.


Tim Hartnett, Pricewaterhouse Coopers
Mr. Hartnett is a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, specializing in providing merger and acquisition services to the private equity industry. Tim was introduced to The Valerie Fund through Camp Happy Times where he first served as a counselor and in subsequent years developed and co-led the Counselor in Training program. Mr. Hartnett earned his undergraduate degree from Boston College and MBA from Columbia Business School. Tim and his family are residents of New Canaan, CT.


Julie Rubinstein, Pfizer
Julie has been active with The Valerie Fund Board. She has been a volunteer counselor at Camp Happy Times and currently serves on The Major Gift Committee. Julie works at Pfizer, Inc. and is Director, Worldwide Commercial Development, Oncology Products. Previously she has worked at Johnson & Johnson and Collegiate Health Care. Julie was a financial analyst at Morgan Stanley in Global Health Care Group and participated in the Morgan Stanley Rec Day Program. Julie has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a dual degree BA/BSE from University of Pennsylvania and The Wharton School. She is happily married and the mother of two children.


Claire Y. Stevens, PNC Wealth Management
Claire Y. Stevens is the Regional Director, Senior Vice President for PNC Wealth Management in Millburn, New Jersey where she is responsible for leading the region's sales and service activities.  Prior to joining PNC Wealth Management, Claire was an award-winning Senior Investment Specialist in the Private Client Group of Charles Schwab, and received numerous honors for excellence in advice, service and sales.  Before her tenure at Charles Schwab, Claire held various management positions with American Express Company in New York City, Atlanta, Boston and Miami.  She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from The Pennsylvania State University and has completed the Executive Program at American Express Company. She also holds NASD Series licenses, 7, 63 and 66. As Claire passionately believes in giving back to the community, she is actively involved in many non-profit organizations, including The Valerie Fund, The Paper Mill Playhouse, Sage Eldercare, The ARC of the United States and The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Among other honors, Claire was recently honored as a 2007 Woman of the Year in Finance by The New Jersey Women’s Fund. Claire lives with her husband and son in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.


Louis Ventura, Bear Stearns
Mr. Louis Ventura is a Senior Managing Director of the Municipal High Net Worth Group at Bear Stearns & Co. He and his wife volunteered this year as counselors at The Valerie Fund's Camp Happy Times. Louis and his wife have also been active volunteers for more than nine years at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. He and his wife reside in Manhattan.


Diane Young, M.D., Novartis
Dr. Young is currently the Vice President of Clinical Development at Novartis Oncology. In this position, she oversees the development of a diverse pipeline of oncology and hematology products, including targeted therapies, cytotoxic chemotherapy, iron chelation therapy, and others. She leads a global group of clinical research personnel. She has pursued her career in research in the pharmaceutical industry for eighteen years, with positions of increasing responsibility at Hoffman-La Roche, Sandoz, and Johnson and Johnson, prior to joining Novartis. Dr. Young lives in Summit, New Jersey, with her husband, Dr. Robert Mich, and their two children, Shannon, 17, and Ryan, 15.


Howard E. Brechner, Esq., Weiner Lesniak
Howard is a partner at Weiner Lesniak where he is Co-Manager of The Litigation Department. He is a past chair of the board of trustees of The Valerie Fund. Howard is currently a member of The Operations Committee. Howard has served as pro bono legal counsel for many years, and is currently Co-Chair of the Committee for Legal and Business Affairs.


Ron Festa, New Heights Consulting
Dr. Ronald M. Festa holds a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational psychology and over 20 years of experience developing and implementing practical, business-driven solutions to complex organizational issues. Ron's training in psychology, coupled with his many years of corporate experience; have provided a strong foundation for addressing a wide range of challenges related to the development of individuals and organizations. As an executive coach, Ron has had significant success helping executives achieve breakthrough performance. He has provided high quality consulting to a wide range of Fortune 500 clients that include AT&T, Binney & Smith, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Colgate-Palmolive, Wachovia, Johnson & Johnson and various J&J companies, Kraft/Nabisco, Lucent Technologies, Morgan Stanley, Pharmacia, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Roche, SONY and The Prudential. Ron is also a form chair of The Valerie Fund Board and father of Justin a former patient.


Harriet Greenholtz, Community Volunteer
Harriet has been involved with The Valerie Fund since it was founded. Harriet has served as chair and been on the Roast Committee, Holiday Parties, Fashion Show and Thanksgiving Ball ( which was founding while she was chair).she currently is serves on Major Gift Committee and will be working on strategic planning. Harriet is a certified teacher and taught grammar school. Harriet currently runs her own company called Tagsale Unlimited. She is a long time Short Hills resident and is very active in the community.


Janet Keating, Community Volunteer
Janet Keating has a degree in Cytotechnology (Microscopic Cancer Diagnosis) from Quinnipiac University, Hamden, CT. Her professional experience included employment in large NJ diagnostic laboratories as well as NJ hospitals. Prior to Janet's transition from career to motherhood she was Cytology Lab Supervisor and Teaching Supervisor at Muhlenberg Hospital, Plainfield, NJ. Along with Janet's commitment to The Valerie Fund Board of Trustees since 1990 (Chairman 2003-2006), her volunteerism includes The Junior League of Summit, Trinity-Pawling School Board of Trustees (Pawling, NY), NYC Parents in Action (Facilitator), and Covenant House New York Corporate Board. A New Jersey native, Janet has resided in New York City for the last 9 yrs. with husband, Dan. She is the mother of three adult children, Brian, Eric (childhood cancer survivor), and Alison.


Joe Uva, Univision
Joe was recently named president of Univision. Prior to that he served as the President & CEO of OMD Worldwide, Joe was President, Turner Entertainment Group Sales and Marketing for Turner Broadcasting Sales, Inc. (TBSI). Appointed in 1996, he handled all domestic sales and marketing for TBS Superstation, TNT, Cartoon Network, Turner South and Turner Sports, additionally developing integrated marketing programs and overseeing barter/trade operations. Joe originally joined TBSI in 1984 as an Account Executive for CNN and later served five years as Vice President and Sales Manager before becoming the Executive Vice President for Sales for CNN/Headline News and the CNN Broadcast Networks (1990 to 1994). Prior to joining TBSI, Joe was involved in an independent media partnership for a year, after having served two years as Eastern Regional Sales Manager for USA Network.
