Child Life Specialists

The Valerie Fund is unique among pediatric oncology centers in offering a comprehensive Child Life and Social Services Program. This Program is in keeping with the basic premises that form the foundation of The Valerie Fund's treatment philosophy: that once diagnosis has taken place you must treat children emotionally, socially, and developmentally as well as medically, and that disease in a child is best fought when the entire family is armed and supported by a full slate of non-medical programs. The Child Life and Social Services Program complements the medical attention each child receives at The Valerie Fund's Children's Centers.

The Valerie Fund's Child Life and Social Services Program consists of four main components that promote a child's continued emotional and social development during and after treatment: The Child Life Centers; The Family and Patient Resource Centers; the School Re-Entry Program; and Support Groups.
