Heather Hodnicky selected as winner of The Valerie Fund "Ties That Bind" contest
Contest judged by famous designer, Joseph Abboud
Event sponsored by PNC Wealth Management
May 8, 2006 - The Valerie Fund announced today that Heather Hodnicky, age 20, is the winner of its "Ties That Bind" contest - a fun competition that was sponsored by PNC Wealth Management for patients of The Valerie Fund. The event was announced during the 30th anniversary celebration of the Valerie Fund held at Duke Farms in Hillsborough, New Jersey on May 4.
At each Valerie Fund Center, PNC invited the kids to draw and color a "designer-original" tie. Then, PNC arranged for the famous lifestyle designer, Joseph Abboud, to judge the entries and choose the winner of the contest. Heather was chosen as the winner and her tie design was unveiled as part of the evening's festivities.
"PNC supports The Valerie Fund and wanted to make its 30th anniversary special," said Daria Placitella, regional managing director of PNC Wealth Management in New Jersey. "We are grateful to Joseph Abboud for his contribution to The Ties That Bind contest, and to The Valerie Fund for its ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life of its young patients."
Nearly 200 contest entries were submitted by children of all ages as part of The Ties That Bind contest. "It was difficult making the final selection. Every tie design was precious and inspirational," said Abboud.
Mr. Abboud stated that Heather's design translates well into a tie that could be manufactured. He liked her detail and color and how she included "VF" in the hearts.
Heather is 20 years old and doing well. Heather said, "To me and my family, The Valerie Fund means life, love and happiness. It couldn’t be said any better. I am very excited to have won this contest and will be happy to see people wearing the tie that I designed."
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the tie will benefit The Valerie Fund. Ties will be available beginning in June for a cost of $30. They will be manufactured in silk and come individually boxed. You can soon purchase them online at www.thevaleriefund.org, in its gift shop.
