30 Years of Caring for Children with Cancer and Blood Disorders

This summer, The Valerie Fund will mark its 30th year of supporting comprehensive care for children with cancer and blood disorders in the tri-state area. Founders, Susan and Edward Goldstein, along with over 120 friends, volunteers, doctors, and staff held a special Anniversary kick-off brunch, on Sunday, June 4th, at The Landmark, in East Rutherford NJ. Guests received a wonderful surprise when Amanda Frankel, granddaughter of Seymour Frankel, the founder of The Valerie Fund’s Camp Happy Times, announced a special $50,000 gift from The Frankel Family in honor of her grandfather. The gift will support Camp Happy Times and will be matched by a $10,000 donation from Robert Payton of Goldman Sachs, a close family friend of the Frankels.

The Valerie Fund has operated Camp Happy Times since 1983 as a free one-week overnight camp for children, aged 5-21, who have or have had cancer. Nearly 200 children attend Camp Happy Times each summer at the two hundred acre Tyler Hill Camp in Wayne County, Pennsylvania. Tyler Hill is fully accredited by the American Camping Association and Camp Happy Times is a proud member of the International Children's Oncology Camping Association.
