NEW YORK - July 20, 2006 - New York’s media community, made up of representatives of major networks and agencies, will put the "care" in karaoke with the first annual "CAREoke for Kids" fund-raising event to be held August 9 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Irving Plaza. Over 800 attendees are expected to attend for the "one night only" CAREoke concert featuring 20 groups made up of media people from all levels of the industry. The Executive Committee for the event is made up of representatives from The Weather Channel, OMD, Turner Broadcasting, NBC Universal, Scripps Networks, Comcast Networks, Fox Cable Networks, MTV Networks, CBS Viacom Plus, Oxygen Media, Discovery Communications, and Lifetime Networks.

The Valerie Fund is a non-profit organization that provides comprehensive healthcare services for children with cancer and blood disorders. There are seven Valerie Fund Children’s Centers treating more than 5,000 children in the tri-state area. The goal is to raise $200,000 with the event.

Groups from The Weather Channel, ABC Family, Initiative, OMD, Scripps Networks, Magna Global and Viacom are among those who will be performing. The deadline to make the donation in order to be included "on-stage" is August 1. Each sponsor will be entitled to 30 seconds of promotional time on a video reel that will play throughout the event. The video clips, can be whatever the sponsor chooses - program previews, a commercial creative or a presentation showing support of the charity and CAREoke event.

Members of the New York-based Media Solutions Group of The Weather Channel have spearheaded the efforts to rech out to media companies to garner support for the event. "We are pleased with the response so far but would like even more companies to commit to taking part in the night’s program of CAREoke before the August 1 deadline to sign up," said Liz Janneman, senior vice president, cable ad sales.

"We have seen an outstanding show of support from people in the media business, people known for their creativity, awareness and wit. It’s a great pleasure to see them putting their talents and efforts forth to support the children who will receive the programs and services The Valerie Fund provides," Barry Kirschner, executive director of The Valerie Fund.

"We are so pleased that our associates in New York made us aware of this event and as a company, we are very proud to support the CAREoke -- a night of fun that has the underlying serious purpose of raising funds to support the programs and services of The Valerie Fund. These programs make a difference in the lives of children with cancer and blood disorders - The Weather Channel is proud to be a part of it," said Debora Wilson, president, The Weather Channel Companies.

Corporate sponsorships ranging from $25,000 to $5,000 are still available on a limited basis until August 1. Ticket packages include: a 20-ticket package for $1,500 and a 10-ticket package for $750.

The Valerie Fund is supported through corporate and foundation grants, special and community events, individual donations, bequests and direct mail solicitations. The organization is located at 2101 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, NJ.
