The Valerie Fund
since 1976

“At The Valerie Fund, we strive to teach each of our kids that their diagnosis (whether it be cancer, sickle cell disease, etc.) is a part of who they are, but that it does not solely define them.”

Rebecca Baglio - TVF, Newark Beth Israel

Social Services

The Child Life and Social Services Program complements the medical attention each child receives at The Valerie Fund Children's Centers. Along with the multi-disciplinary treatment team, the child life specialists and social workers are able to provide programs and services appropriate for each child's developmental, emotional and educational needs in a family-centered care environment.

The primary purpose of The Valerie Fund's Child Life and Social Services Program is to prepare children who are diagnosed with cancer emotionally, socially, and developmentally for what lies ahead. The Valerie Fund Child Life Services, including education, recreational activities and counseling, promote a child's continued emotional and social development during and after treatment. This program is vital to a child's comfort and understanding of his/her illness. The Valerie Fund's Family and Patient Resource Center, Child Life Center, School Re-Entry, and Support Group programs are essential for achieving this type of quality care.
