Staying strong with Warrior Pride!
Last February, my brother Nathan was diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This came as a shock to us all, especially Nathan who was in the middle of his freshman year of high school. After his diagnosis, Nathan spent a few days in the PICU, then two additional weeks in the Pediatric Ward. He was treated at Morristown Memorial Medical Center, and received his treatments through The Valerie Fund, an organization dedicated to providing treatment for pediatric cancer patients. The Valerie Fund provided Nathan with excellent resources while he was in the hospital. Nathan had the benefit of staying in his own room, when he received inpatient treatments. Nathan's outpatient treatments were performed by the same dedicated cadre of doctors and nurses throughout his whole treatment cycle. Even now that Nathan is in maintenance, he still sees the Valerie Center doctors and nurses once a month. The Valerie Center's dedication to excellence reminds me of one moment where it looked like Nathan wasn't going to be able to make his sacrament of Confirmation. He had spiked a fever the night before and had to spend the night in the hospital. However, The Valerie Fund staff made it possible for Nate to get an "early check-out" as it were, and make his Confirmation along with his friends. The Valerie Fund has provided, and continues to provide a place for Nate and the rest of us DiBari's to feel a sense of normalcy in the disorientation that follows someone's cancer diagnosis. Nate has recently begun his trek back to peak physical condition. He hopes to play lacrosse in the spring, and he is now receiving physical therapy treatment through JAG Physical Therapy. I hope that you will be able to make a donation, small or large, in order to help these two great organizations, which have helped my family and so many more. Please, if you have a chance, take a look at The Valerie Fund website and read about the stories of some of the other families The Valerie Fund has helped. Nathan continues to receive treatment through both JAG and The Valerie Fund. Our goal this year is to raise $5,000; last year we surpassed that goal by a few hundred dollars. Hopefully we can do the same this year!
